Our guides are general information
The Bill Detective publishes general information about solar power, batteries, inverters, electricity tariffs and water backup for South African homes. It is not financial, legal, engineering or electrical advice, and it doesn't take your home, budget or circumstances into account.
- Prices, tariffs and rules change often. Every guide shows the date we checked our sources, and figures may be out of date by the time you read them.
- Always confirm tariffs and charges with your municipality or Eskom, and get written, itemised quotes before you buy.
- Electrical work in South Africa must be done by a registered electrician, who must issue a Certificate of Compliance. Never attempt fixed electrical work yourself.
- Example scenarios in our guides are illustrations with stated assumptions. They are not real customers and not a promise of what you will save.

Quote requests and installers
If you use our free quotes form, we pass your details, with your consent, to up to three installers or service providers. They are independent businesses. Any quote, contract, installation or warranty is between you and them, and we are not a party to it. Check their registration, insurance and references before you sign. Installers may pay us a referral fee; it costs you nothing. How we handle your details is set out in our privacy policy.
Advertising, affiliate links and referral fees
This site may show advertising, including ads served by Google, and some links may be affiliate links that pay us a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you. Advertisers and affiliate partners don't decide what our guides say. An ad on this site is not an endorsement of the product advertised.
Links to other websites
We link to sources and other websites so you can check our facts. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices.
Limitation of liability
We work hard to keep our guides accurate, but we can't guarantee that everything is complete, current or error free. To the extent the law allows, The Bill Detective is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or reliance on its content. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 that cannot lawfully be limited.
